ETR 'Surf Board Table' Charles Eames by Herman miller 1951, Vintage example.
The ETR (Elliptical Table Rod base) or “surfboard” table was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1951. It utillizes two of wire bases they designed for their LTR tables which support a long, elegant oval top. The ETR is beautiful not only in shape, but in it’s simple form. The plywood top is covered in black mica (the only color option offered in the 1950s) and the two wire bases are black. Nice vintage examples are quite rare, and this table, while having a patina appropriate for its age and use, is a fine example.
