Art Deco Rosewood, Mahogany and Galuchat Cabinet

Art Deco Rosewood, Mahogany and Galuchat Cabinet - -

About

Exquisite Art Deco cabinet with a pair of large central doors finished in paneled galuchat flanked by two side doors, all lockable (keys included). Mahogany shelving and two small drawers inside. It is resting on four sabered legs. The galuchat pannels provide a rich bright texture to the piece. Very good vintage condition.

Galuchat leather is a rough surface leather produced from the skin of rays and sharks. Named for the French casemaker, J. Galuchat, it was first made in the 18th century. The hard and durable skin is prepared with the natural pearly gray or dyed green color. It was used in the 18th century for small decorative items, scientific instrument covers and sword hilts. Galuchat leather is still made in Japan and is used to trim purses.
