Ecco Bookshelf by Ora-Ito

photos: Ribon

This is the first eco piece manufactured by Artelano. The bookshelf designed by Ora-Ito is made out recycled material taken from certified forests.
The assemby is done without fastenings, by simple fitting of the different elements: Ecco (here you are)!

I wish designers and their manufacturers would make it a habit to explain why a product is ecological or fits in the new sustainable culture. Maybe we should not be so suspicious of green washing, but given the abuse that is out there, we have to. This kind of claims that it is a re-cycled material coming out of a certified forest is just not enough, on the contrary, the lack of basic information is the very reason for more suspicion. Frankly, I do not believe them

I tried to find information on both websites but found both pretty
useless and the designers site the worst website I have ever tried to
navigate, try it, you'll hate it.

I actually like the design, aside form the radiused corners which are a
major failure in terms of a well functioning bookshelf but the claim that it
is produced from recycled plantation grown timber sounds very strange
and extraordinairly unlikely.

An almost identical design could have been produced using the
finger jointed laminated pine or beech boards that are so widely available
and with a clear finish could be quite attractive.

I too have to wonder why the inside corners are radiused for a book shelf. The concept is good - just not thought all the way through.

okay art
