...before then, really, but the 80s is when I started buying furniture. At that time, though, I thought Saarinen's Tulip furniture was something you could only get used ("vintage"), and I saw them so infrequently, and they were expensive, at least, for me at that time. Last year, a friend who knew I liked mid-century asked me to help her find things for her new apartment in NY, and I found out just how much is available now thanks to the internet. I had no idea. I never had enough interest in design to pursue it as a career (plus I can't draw), though if I were younger, I might choose to do so today.
