The last thing you acquired
We need to liven up this joint. In the spirit of fun (hopefully), inspiration, and self-congratulation, please post a photo of a recent design-related item that you purchased, stole (j/k!), or otherwise acquired.

Nice wooden items Woodywood and Graeme!
Wood again... We've bought this little Danish fellow this morning for 20 cents. So, not sure if it's an aquisition or if it's stealing.

Nice find. The chairs als appear in TASHEN, interiors now, p. 139. I have a similar green executive chair. On the internet these chairs are sometimes attributed to Guariche and Meurop, Belgium, but I have never found proof in an old brochure, magazine or book. Anyway they are nice

mobler
Picked up a few things on my last trip. Here's my favs from the day though.
Set of teak HJN Mobler bedroom chests. One is a standard 3 drawer chest; and this is the other: They look identical until you open it up.
Not sure of rarity, but I can't find more than 2 other HJN pieces in all my searches.

I've always been partial to natural tan or camel leather. Similar to the fabric color in the photo.

I found a Nelson moulded plywood tray last week for 50 cents
On its own, that's not so remarkable. The crazy thing is how often I still find them. I've picked up roughly 20 of them in West Michigan second hand stores and garage sales, and they're always less than $1.
It's become much more difficult in recent years to find the iconic Herman Miller pieces (Eames chairs, Nelson benches, HM picnic posters, etc.)at bargain prices. However, the Nelson trays are less well known, and Herman Miller gave a large number of them as Employee Christmas gifts back in the day. With an occasional trip to the local thrift shop, I can count on finding about two a year.

How do I add images to a...
How do I add images to a post?
You can easily add up to 3 images per post. First, your images must be
hosted on the internet. If you don?t have your own server, you can easily
host your pictures on websites like Photobucket, which is free.
To associate your images to your message, place the url of your images in
the ?associate web image? field in the submission form.
If the image is hosted on your server, the url will look like this:
http://www.mywebsite.com/images/picture1.jpg
If your image is hosted on Photobucket, the url will look like this:
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f379/yourid/picture1.jpg
Add only the direct link. There?s no need to add fancy codes like [IMG]

Bamboo
A 10ft high 4ft diameter pot of winter hardy, very healthy Fargesia Robusta yellow-stalk, clumping form bamboo for $125. I am, like, totally thrilled. Should have been about $500, but was marked down cuz the pot was broken...and I didn't want the pot anyhow!

Woody, you are too funny.
So...can I include a little trinket sent to me last week... as a gift from my twisted younger sister? I believe him to be Tarzan, but I plan to call him Uncle Jane as all of his nails (digits) are polished in a tasteful cool toned red. He has hand scratched unto the bottom De Lee TT Hollywood 1949. What a hunk.
I am so proud!

Good Heavens, Mark that thing is super tacky! I'm sure you bought it with that in mind but WOW!
uasrem2, First off I bought a Fargesia, which is a clumping type that doesn't have the rhizomatous issues of its cousin the Phyllostachys. Second, a cement-board lined trench 3ft deep. Third, I'm in New Mexico where bamboo is a bit of an exotic specimen plant. Too dry and too much UV light here for any bamboo to be as aggressive as it usually is.

BUUUUUUT....It's from sister Jill! Most might find sister Jill also tacky..in an upper middle class sort of way. too funny. So then..whatabout this mornings eyeglasses. Actually popped for a couple different pair. Others arrive tomorrow. Both are Edward Beiner (Miami...by far my fav eyewear joint..i'm an addict....i'm going broke....i don't care....life is good.). They are to wear to a Palm Beach birthday party next weekend. I thought that they'd match the outfit I want to wear...plus I will definitely wear 'em again, as I feel very pretty when I have them on.
ps i know that fashion is a forbidden topic...but I'm into the highballs...

Nutbowl
Cute teak bowl from an estate sale. I grabbed a whole bunch of danish serving items - a relish tray, this nutbowl and a beautiful round tray - oh, and a metal tray from England with a picture of a peacock on it, all for $1.50.
I love when I get something from an estate sale because I feel good about giving the items a new home where they will be loved. :)

Today, I purchased my...
Today, I purchased my first piece('s) of Paul McCobb "contempri" white platters. A Goodwill thrift purchase where I snagged all 8 for less than $10. These are probably pretty common but I couldn't resist the shape, and I only allow white dishes (mix and match are fine..) into my kitchen. Food always tastes better on a white plate. I'm leaving one out on the sideboard. I want more.
All the best,
Mark.

Got this Lane coffee table at a thrift store where most items are pretty haggard. I was surprised it was still around 1 hour after opening as most good items are gone immediately. It was $65 and has some slight wear to the top but looks great.

It's been a while since I posted
But The last few items I have gotten have been mostly Eames stuff - lucky CL finds.
First, an early yellow RAR. ALong with that I bought an Eiffel base arm shell of the same vintage in pink. I bought each for $200.
Next I bought an Eames loose cushion desk chair for $75.
A pair of Early light yellow arm shells with large shock mounts and X bases. I got the pair for $125.
A pair of Kofod Larsen dining chairs for $50 each.

those mario sabo chairs are dope!
i did happen to stumble across these large david cressey pro artisan architectural pottery planters today.....
they were on a for sale church campus. the only bummer is when the nice gentleman moved the acanthus pot (which i told him not to do) he chipped and cracked it. Always, always move the goods yourself is my rule of law........

Re Mario Sabot....there is a...
Re Mario Sabot....there is a popular misconception that there was some form of design relationship between Willy Rizzo and Mario Sabot but I have it from the Rizzo family themselves that there was at no point ever any such relationship. If you google willy rizzo you will find tons of Mario Sabot items being sold as Rizzo for Sabot. I think both have fantastic designs and should be celebrated individually but there are dealers and major auction houses knowingly creating this false attribution.

A Clifford Pascoe (McCobbesque) Chair
A Clifford Pascoe chair. Walking by Goodwill and it was sitting outside in a pile of donations left in the night. $4.95. None too shabby. Except then I panicked about bedbugs and gave it to a friend.

75 dollar find on saterday(today)
I was looking around CL as usual, and i came across a guy that was posting alot of older retro things for cheap in NH, im from mass. Anyway so i decided to type in his keywords he was continuously using, and sure enough there it was...
at the bottom of the page
The Knoll Bird chair. It was a 2 and a half hour drive that was 100 percent worth it, it needs a little work but its still a beaut.
I took it all apart and found that the shockmounts are dated! circa 1960.

It's the larger of this...
It's the larger of this particular model (that I know of). At it's widest and highest 14.25 x 6.5 inches, or 36 x 16 cm. Been staring at it all day. My conclusion it's not a bowl, it's a sculpture. Wish I had the others...in time.

Jacobsen, Fritz...
Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen(swivel) Egg Chair and Ottoman. On the street outside of a local thrift store this afternoon for $5-I nearly crapped my pants. Was afraid that someone would steal it while I was getting my car.....but I made it home w/ the chair. Filthy faded (once brown) hopsack and crumbling foam. Now to decide on fabric or leather.....? Back to the office.....it was a longer than expected lunch break.

LOL. Wow, nice find, funny and good to know I'm not the only one out there who would nearly crap their pants and think someone would want to snatch it up or offer more while I'm getting the car. Try fitting that in a VW, LOL; oh it's doable!

I told the lady at the thrift store who sold it to me that people might be coming along and offering more money.....when I got back she told me I was right. Several people had asked to buy it and had offered considerably more than I had paid. (It was outside on a NYC sidewalk for God's sake). Clearly there is still some integrity in the world. I will be going back to the store tomorrow to make a donation...(not for the full value of the chair-but more than the $5 I paid)

This does, indeed, make me...
This does, indeed, make me feel better about the Angelo Mangiarotti table. The table (I was able to match up the marble veining on the base) showed up on 1stDibs last week for 12K.... (see link) but if you gave me the choice, I'd take the Egg any day.
That said, anyone have any recommendations for a shop in or near NYC that can refoam and reupholster? This is one of those jobs that can't just be sent anywhere

Jesgord, I commend you for making a donation! Seriously good karma! If I may, I suggest giving the donation when the lady who assisted you is present. Maybe even give her a flower....maybe, since you might not want to draw too much attention.
I'm still amazed with your find...especially since it's complete with an ottoman. Like Tulipman, astounding it was on the streets of NYC!!! Next time, carry off your finds! Too risky leaving it with strangers.

Saved. (saarinen knoll executive chair)
I was driving home when I spotted this chair sitting in someone's yard. I made a quick U and asked if they would sell it to me, the owner looked at me perplexed and told me I could have it. I told him I'd pay him something or replace it. He took my offer of a replacement, so I brought him to acceptable lawn chairs. He told me it was probably wet since it had rained the night before, oh the fate I saved this lovely from. I did I good deed. :) It's now clean and sitting pretty indoors.
It's in good condition, the original label was removed/ lost but does have an IBM sticker on the back leg. It is also missing a glide would any of you know where I could find a replacement?

The attribution was wrong but I wasn't the only one who spotted it....hammer dropped at 1100 plus buyers premium of 20% but for me this is going into the permanent collection so hopefully my kids will do well off it in the future........which should help seeing as our govt are hell bent on ruining our kids future over here in Ireland.

The papa bear is a beautiful chair
... and well worth whatever you paid. But for an all-time score, it depends on how much it cost. An egg chair and ottoman for 5 bucks is tough to beat for a super thrifty score.

re: kenroy lamp (Angelo Lelli)
I am a bit confused about that lamp. Maybe you know something I don't so hopefully you can enlighten me. A few moths ago there was similar lamp on Ebay. There was actually a sticker on the base of that lamp shown in the pics that said Kenroy with the year 1986 next to it. When the lamp was listed I was sure the guy had no idea what he really had but held back from bidding as there actually is a manufacturer of lamps by the name of Kenroy. Is it possible that these are reproductions of the Angelo Lelli lamp? Maybe it is possible that Kenroy was the US distributor of the Lelli lamp.

That's true-amazing Egg Chair score for 5.00!
I myself just got a Black McCobb Planner Group cabinet over the weekend, very nice original finish, for $35.00.Great score ,but not in the league of the 2 aforementioned chairs .I'm still amazed at the upholstery job on the Papa Bear.Perfect color, and whoever reupholstered it knew what they were doing,I can see the perfect piping curves beneath the armrests, not to mention the impeccable button tufting.

I agree 5 bucks for the Egg c...
I agree 5 bucks for the Egg chair is an absolute steal!! I paid $100 dollars for all three pieces!! So the papa bear comes out to roughly 35 bucks!! I did splurge on it though, it cost me $500 to have it re-upholstered and the teak refinished!
Tulipman the upholstery was done by Denmark 50 in Los Angeles. They are the masters of preservation and restoration of classic danish modern pieces!

Modcounts....I think you may have me beat ;-) That Papa Bear is spectacular...$500.00 seems like a steal compared to the prices I've been quoted to re-do the egg and ottoman.

jesgord...thanks! But in all fairness the egg chair is pretty difficult to
re-upholster! I've heard there is over 1,300 stitches involved!!!
