The last thing you acquired
We need to liven up this joint. In the spirit of fun (hopefully), inspiration, and self-congratulation, please post a photo of a recent design-related item that you purchased, stole (j/k!), or otherwise acquired.

Nice find. The chairs als appear in TASHEN, interiors now, p. 139. I have a similar green executive chair. On the internet these chairs are sometimes attributed to Guariche and Meurop, Belgium, but I have never found proof in an old brochure, magazine or book. Anyway they are nice

Picked up a few things on my last trip. Here's my favs from the day though.

Set of teak HJN Mobler bedroom chests. One is a standard 3 drawer chest; and this is the other: They look identical until you open it up.

Not sure of rarity, but I can't find more than 2 other HJN pieces in all my searches.

Lounge chair
I found this chair at a garage sale and picked it up for $15. It is by Percival Lafer. I have never seen one with cushions such as this, but they are original and have the MP Lafer labels sewn just inside each cushion. The chair has had two of the rear leather straps replaced and also the seat webbing. Honestly the most comfortable chair i now own. I love the clean simple lines, and who doesn't love Brazilian rosewood?

I found a Nelson moulded plywood tray last week for 50 cents
On its own, that's not so remarkable. The crazy thing is how often I still find them. I've picked up roughly 20 of them in West Michigan second hand stores and garage sales, and they're always less than $1.

It's become much more difficult in recent years to find the iconic Herman Miller pieces (Eames chairs, Nelson benches, HM picnic posters, etc.)at bargain prices. However, the Nelson trays are less well known, and Herman Miller gave a large number of them as Employee Christmas gifts back in the day. With an occasional trip to the local thrift shop, I can count on finding about two a year.

Good Heavens, Mark that thing is super tacky! I'm sure you bought it with that in mind but WOW!

uasrem2, First off I bought a Fargesia, which is a clumping type that doesn't have the rhizomatous issues of its cousin the Phyllostachys. Second, a cement-board lined trench 3ft deep. Third, I'm in New Mexico where bamboo is a bit of an exotic specimen plant. Too dry and too much UV light here for any bamboo to be as aggressive as it usually is.

I'm with pegboard
Lots of good finds lately, and in some places I would have scarcely imagined. But I am picking 2 more unusual ones for your pleasure and to ask if anyone knows these items or can offer research direction. The first is one is a pair (one pictured) of raymor torchieres. Bamboo, with painted aluminum cone shades and large ball switch knobs. The other is a cafe table with a solid cast bronze base, tapered wood column, and an (annoyingly) wood grain laminate top with a steep bevel underneath like a Saarinen table. Where the bevel rounds over at the edge, it is covered with a brass moulding. Looks italian to me, but there are no markings anywhere. The only clue is that the truss rod nuts are metric. Any Ideas on either of these?

those mario sabo chairs are dope!
i did happen to stumble across these large david cressey pro artisan architectural pottery planters today.....
they were on a for sale church campus. the only bummer is when the nice gentleman moved the acanthus pot (which i told him not to do) he chipped and cracked it. Always, always move the goods yourself is my rule of law........

Re Mario Sabot....there is a popular misconception that there was some form of design relationship between Willy Rizzo and Mario Sabot but I have it from the Rizzo family themselves that there was at no point ever any such relationship. If you google willy rizzo you will find tons of Mario Sabot items being sold as Rizzo for Sabot. I think both have fantastic designs and should be celebrated individually but there are dealers and major auction houses knowingly creating this false attribution.

A Clifford Pascoe chair. Walking by Goodwill and it was sitting outside in a pile of donations left in the night. $4.95. None too shabby. Except then I panicked about bedbugs and gave it to a friend.

75 dollar find on saterday(today)
I was looking around CL as usual, and i came across a guy that was posting alot of older retro things for cheap in NH, im from mass. Anyway so i decided to type in his keywords he was continuously using, and sure enough there it was...
at the bottom of the page

The Knoll Bird chair. It was a 2 and a half hour drive that was 100 percent worth it, it needs a little work but its still a beaut.

I took it all apart and found that the shockmounts are dated! circa 1960.

It's the larger of this particular model (that I know of). At it's widest and highest 14.25 x 6.5 inches, or 36 x 16 cm. Been staring at it all day. My conclusion it's not a bowl, it's a sculpture. Wish I had the others...in time.

Jacobsen, Fritz...
Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen(swivel) Egg Chair and Ottoman. On the street outside of a local thrift store this afternoon for $5-I nearly crapped my pants. Was afraid that someone would steal it while I was getting my car.....but I made it home w/ the chair. Filthy faded (once brown) hopsack and crumbling foam. Now to decide on fabric or leather.....? Back to the office.....it was a longer than expected lunch break.

I told the lady at the thrift store who sold it to me that people might be coming along and offering more money.....when I got back she told me I was right. Several people had asked to buy it and had offered considerably more than I had paid. (It was outside on a NYC sidewalk for God's sake). Clearly there is still some integrity in the world. I will be going back to the store tomorrow to make a donation...(not for the full value of the chair-but more than the $5 I paid)

That said, anyone have any recommendations for a shop in or near NYC that can refoam and reupholster? This is one of those jobs that can't just be sent anywhere

Jesgord, I commend you for making a donation! Seriously good karma! If I may, I suggest giving the donation when the lady who assisted you is present. Maybe even give her a flower....maybe, since you might not want to draw too much attention.

I'm still amazed with your find...especially since it's complete with an ottoman. Like Tulipman, astounding it was on the streets of NYC!!! Next time, carry off your finds! Too risky leaving it with strangers.

Saved. (saarinen knoll executive chair)
I was driving home when I spotted this chair sitting in someone's yard. I made a quick U and asked if they would sell it to me, the owner looked at me perplexed and told me I could have it. I told him I'd pay him something or replace it. He took my offer of a replacement, so I brought him to acceptable lawn chairs. He told me it was probably wet since it had rained the night before, oh the fate I saved this lovely from. I did I good deed. :) It's now clean and sitting pretty indoors.

It's in good condition, the original label was removed/ lost but does have an IBM sticker on the back leg. It is also missing a glide would any of you know where I could find a replacement?

re: kenroy lamp (Angelo Lelli)
I am a bit confused about that lamp. Maybe you know something I don't so hopefully you can enlighten me. A few moths ago there was similar lamp on Ebay. There was actually a sticker on the base of that lamp shown in the pics that said Kenroy with the year 1986 next to it. When the lamp was listed I was sure the guy had no idea what he really had but held back from bidding as there actually is a manufacturer of lamps by the name of Kenroy. Is it possible that these are reproductions of the Angelo Lelli lamp? Maybe it is possible that Kenroy was the US distributor of the Lelli lamp.

I agree 5 bucks for the Egg chair is an absolute steal!! I paid $100 dollars for all three pieces!! So the papa bear comes out to roughly 35 bucks!! I did splurge on it though, it cost me $500 to have it re-upholstered and the teak refinished!
Tulipman the upholstery was done by Denmark 50 in Los Angeles. They are the masters of preservation and restoration of classic danish modern pieces!
