If it's only 6" tall I bet it could for sugar cubes r/o
or something like that-- the thing on the side held tongs or a small spoon?

fun mystery.

That was worth the 98 cents I paid at the thrift store just to read some of those answers!

You will now,
for the rest of your life, be searching flea markets for the correct nutcrackers.

I think we need a thread entitled "things I have been searching for in vain for many years". I'll start: two crystals for my Gaetano Sciolari chandelier.

Also, I have just bought another Eames lounge chair at auction and the ottoman is missing one of the feet inserts. What is the correct term for that little piece so that I can start searching for one? Is it a glide?

I'm impressed
I thought Adam was right. I will be perfectly fine with a nut cracker without the teak handles..., but secretly will always be on the quest. By the way that is a cool web site that Spanky linked. Thanks to all!

This WAS a fun thread.
Akin to the "what IS it?" tool segment they do at the end of This Old House.

Disappointed to find out it wasn't a toenail clipping bin, though-- nuts.

another teak thing
But it's not particularly old and I'm pretty sure it's not Scandinavian-made. It might not even be teak.

I swiped it out of the dispensing room of my husband's optometric office.
