Recommendation request: nice high backed office chair
It's time now for me to get a new office chair. High backed ones are a must; as is tilting capability. The Pollock chairs look great but I don't know if they make high backed versions; I've always hated Eames office chairs, they're far too corporate, with every damn high st bank or TV news anchor using them. Urgh. Suggestions welcomed! :)

The lovely Knoll Life chair.
-- comes in a variety of colors & finishes. Love, love, LOVE mine-- it features all kinds of adjustability, the back responds & reclines with the movements of the sitter.

i have the "Logos" chair by Fabricius / Kastholm for Walter Knoll. this is not my chair in the picture, i "borowed" the picture because i was too lazy to make a photo by myself.

lit up said he didn't like...
lit up said he didn't like the eames aluminum group, which is a sadness, so the alternative of the soft pad version is odd.
it's the 'same' chair...but more importantly, after ordering one for my father a few years ago, I realized how poor it was for actual comfort (compared to my normal aluminum group exec high back). The addition of the pads makes the seat so short that it was awkward to sit on it---and I'm short (5'7')! A taller person's experience will be worse.

Some people can't read....
Some people can't read. Either that or they have Eamesitis. I hate to think what Eamesitis does to people. I did say in the first post that Eames was off the agenda.
In this day and age there is nothing more corporate or nouveau riche than Eames designed furniture. I don't have time for any of it.
If I hear the word Eames in any context one more time I think I will scream ;)

Ergonomics?
I was talking to a friend of mine who said you have to be careful when buying vintage office chairs as back in the day the amelioration of RSI or back problems or other potential desk-related injuries had not been institutionalised into furniture design and manufacture. That logos looks great but doesn't appear so great to sit in.

have you tried?
i never had problems with my logos. but this means nothing, you have to try for yourself. and this is the problem, you need to have access to one but its rare and vintage. i thought your question is about the looks.

Isn't that like
being "tired of" Mercedes -- or diamonds, or apple pie ? A good product is still good, whether we get bored or over-fed on it. . .no ?
Maybe I missed the argument, somewhere. . .

i'm not making an argument...
i'm not making an argument just asking for an alternative recommendation of what to buy. you buy eames if you want to.
What I'm most interested in at the moment is to find out whether ergonomics or lack thereof is an issue when buying vintage office chairs.

hard to say
a friend of mine bought a new, ergonomic state of the art, chair (very ugly). now he always complaints about problems with his neck and back. i sit in a vintage, no ergonomics, chair and enjoying surfing the internet.

WHy must it have a high...
WHy must it have a high back? I have a leather Knoll Pollock. You can find them easily for just a few hundred and it's the most comfortable desk chair I've ever sat in. I love it. UNless you are going to take a nap in it why a high back?

Thanks folks.
Whitespike, higher backs are just another luxury. I like this luxury stuff. Otherwise I wouldn't be into vintage designer furniture.

Well Pollocks retail for arou...
Well Pollocks retail for around 3K and leather is definitely luxury. I just think you'll find if the chair is comfortable enough and gives good support, head support isn't really necessary ... and opens up a lot more possibilities/options.

Point taken Whitey but I have a leather lounge chair in my room already. PS the topic of discussion on this forum is already in the realm of luxury which is by its very definition not strictly necessary.

Keeping it up.
This thread has become pointless, like most of Lit Up's.

Lit Up, do I have the chair...
Lit Up, do I have the chair for you.
This high backed, gold plated chair designed by Hadi Teherani was rated as the most expensive office chair in the world.
For only $65,500 it can be yours
