Get off yer arse.
Sort of, anyway.

The wave of the future in office workstations?

As seen at ICFF:

Sitting is bad.

I guess this falls somewhere in between.

At least it's not just some old board.
Don't get me wrong, I do love my chairs, but it seems like the current thinking is that they are killing us with comfort.

Full disclosure: I'm writing this while sitting on a high-back HM "Equa II" that I recently bought second-hand in as-new condition for $35. No, it's no Aeron, but it's a far sight better than what I just took to the "take-it-or-leave-it" pile at the dump!

That system
looks very smart to me. We haven't seen a "tractor seat" in the office setting before ! Or am I misreading that red seat shown at far right ? I'd like to give this one a try. I wonder what the little tab is near the bottom of the "downtube" . . .

It appears that the desk-top might be designed to assume a more drafting-board slope, if the black bracket were reversed from the position shown.

Need
I want/need one of these. I hate sitting while working. It's bad for circulation and, for a man, one's prostate. I can't get into 'the zone' cognitively when standing at a standing desk. This would be a good compromise.

Full disclosure: I write this while sitting on an H.M. side chair.

Full disclosure:
I have no personal stake in the venture, but I do know Martin Keen personally. Some of you may know of his previous company, Keen footwear, for whom he was the primary designer.

Martin is a great guy, forever active in various pursuits, but he suffers from lower back problems exacerbated by prolonged sitting and this design grew out of his personal search for a solution to this common affliction. That's him in the pic.

I've yet to try this system out, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity soon.

I was really more interested in what you all might think of the execution and whether or not you think it fairly represents a valid evolution of modern institutional furniture design.

SDR, the height and angles of both the seat and the work surface are widely adjustable, as I understand it.

That is ironic. I had emailed this thread to my girlfriend, who also has back problems from sitting at a desk -- she works for Keen Footwear.

She was already familiar with it, and told me that it was Martin Keen's latest venture.

What a coincidence!
If you like irony, have her tell you about how those sharks she slaves for fired Martin and kept his name and designs once the company started making real money. He can't even legally use his own name for any of his new shoe designs!

Mark, he'd be the first to admit he was naive.
You can bet he's not made that mistake again.

It's vulture capitalism, though. He f'ed up. He trusted them.

It took years with the lawyers, but he ended up with a better settlement than what he was offered when he was shown the door. I think he drives a "special" 911 variant now.

That's the booze talking.
I would never dare post a self-portrait on DA.

I look like a randy hick from "Deliverance".

America's Most Wanted's switchboard would light up like a Christmas tree.
