Eames shell chair?
I have a chair that I believe is an early Eames upholstered shell chair (DAX maybe). It doesn't have any labels or markings and would like your thoughts on how I can verify.

looks correct
It sure looks correct to me. Large shock mounts and I think I see the washers. You may have really lucked out and your chair may have a rope edge which you would see if you removed the cover. You can buy replacement boot glides on line. nice find.

Enlarged photo of shocks
thanks for the info, I've included a blowup of the shock area. The look to be molded in. Should there be any indentification marks telling me it's a real Eames chair?

early edition
hello,
the shell is from the first or second production serie in 1949/50 and they only had stickers on it. the company was zenith plastics, gardena, michigan. they produced the shells with the large shockmounts only in that time period. later versions were smaller pucks.
your shell is painted, it could be that the previous owner has done that job, or the company has made it. but it looks that the shockmounts are also painted.

Your Eames Chairs
We have some Eames Shell Chairs with covers on them from 1954 that are large shock mount and also have the bottoms painted - they were done this way in the factory and should have a very slightly pebbled feel to it.
