Could have, yes.
Herman Miller will happily upholster their products with any customer-supplied fabric that's suitable, no matter how tasteless the pattern.

Yup
It's ugly... but it's kind of cool. I presume it's vinyl. Does it look original (i.e. quality upholstering job)?

oh, it was the real deal. It was completely upholstered front and back. It looked like an oil cloth rather than vinyl.
