ID Help w/early 50s Multi-Colored Sputnik Wind Up Music Toy
hi everyone. i just recently acquired this piece. it's a multi-colored wind up music toy. a friend of mine once showed me a portion of this same piece which included the yellow center ball and the smaller balls on springs. neither of us knew it was the top to a music toy. he had collected it because it was very interesting. i was fascinated by it. anyway, this complete piece showed up. a friend found it. to me it's one of the coolest little mid-century modern sculptures i've ever come across. It stands about 6 inches tall. There are no manufacturer's marks anywhere that i can find. i'm hoping someone out there knows something about it. i would love to find out if it has a name and who designed it. any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

Kouvalias of Greece
Made until fairly recently and recalled due to a choking hazard so, um, don't put it in your mouth.

I got their caterpillar pull toy in Goodwill for 2 bucks---really nice quality, very much like vintage Brio toys. I love it.

I believe
... it may also be useful when administering a massage.

?
Was the choking hazard recall issued due to the song that it plays?

Of course.
I've heard of this situation vicariously, natch.

Carry on.

ps you are in reference to the smell of the balls? I so understand.
