Juhl Sofa
Any Scandinavian experts out there with any info on this Juhl sofa?
Did they make many under the Vodder name? I have only seen Baker examples...
Also, were they offered in leather? This thing is crazy!
Not that I can buy this one but hoping for more information..

Baker Sofa
I have always seen the sofa described as being designed by Juhl "for Baker Furniture in the United States." The Vodder proto-type shown in the black and white photo at the Wright auction page is the first one I have seen described as not made by Baker (apart from the new releases from OneCollection). I guess that does not answer the question of why Vodder would be making a proto-type for a design if it was intended for Baker.

yep
Ya, mine.

The cushion was redone so I had it done in a fabric and colour sympathetic to Juhl's earlier designs. I think the original cushion was probably some type of wool but it was done later in a horrible microsuede.

It is my understanding that the sofa was never created in leather for the general buyer . This particular example was custom ordered in leather by the President of Herman Miller Canada in the 50's so the leather is of age and it is really nice at that.

I think the Niels Vodder pieces were only made by as examples of the form or "prototypes" and only 2 or 3 exist.
I am not sure any have ever came up for sale?

Nonetheless, a great piece and I hope it gets a price worthy of it's beauty and form.

not easy
not easy to part with but vintage leather scares me. i prefer to live with less delicate things on a regular basis.
certainly the only one i will ever see let alone in leather.

and i hope it goes over estimate ;D i would be bummed if it just skims by....

Ok, I get the historical signifigance and the obvious inherent value of the sofa, but am I the only one who thinks it looks absolutely tacky and wouldn't be caught dead with it in my living room?

scandinavianbeast and waffle...
scandinavianbeast and waffle are both about right. A hammer price of $30,000 plus a 25% buyers premium gives a final price of $37,500. The buyer pays nearly what waffle guessed, the seller gets nearly what scandinavianbeast guessed. Wright keeps about $10,000.
