Cork?
I would like to get peoples' thoughts on cork as a floor surface for a series of bedrooms. Issues, concerns etc... Also, let me know if anyone knows of good online sources to order cork flooring.
i imagine the advantages would be a very unique warm-feeling flooring.....it may even help reduce noise in the space.
if it were me, i would be very concerned about how durable the material is. the cork material over time will compress .... as a surface this will happen uneven (example:where furniture legs contact the floor) also, how would you clean the surface?
i would imagine you can seal the cork to help with cleaning......but the materials tendency to compress over time should be a major concern.
Cork has
a long history of use as a floor surface. My 30's high school had its original variegated warm-colored 12" cork tile floor when I was there in the later 50's. It was kept waxed and buffed. Looked good, felt god. Many 50's modern houses had cork tile floors (A Quincy Jones, Raphael Soriano etc etc). Armstrong was a leading supplier then. It is available today.
Portoins of falling water...
Portoins of falling water actually have cork floors. Most of the floors I have seen are ground cork mixed with a resin. I would like to find larger sheets for two rooms that are approximately two hundred and three hundred square feet. Preferably in a golden oak tone. I believe it will be a relatively warm, soft and quiet surface. Any recomendations for vendors?
Cork is...
excellent for floors coverings. If you Google it...and dog pile it for AC you will certainmly find quite a number of good sources. Our floor in Sweden was made by Wicander...if I remember well. I think that they are still around, even in North America. Great stuff!
