An Actual Barcelona Chair Review
I picked up a couple of chairs from the Modern Furniture Classics website. FYI...they're the ones that have the comparison chart on their site. Anyway, these chairs had all the features I was looking for. SS frame, correct construction, etc. The price was definitely right as well....I paid $599 ea, but missed a sale on them a week prior for about $569 ea. Shipping ran me I think $130 for two chairs to ship to me here in TX. So, let's just say $1350 for two chairs.
Everything looks great on the chairs...just as I expected. I've compared them to a number of others that I've seen. Brand new knoll, new DWR, vintage knoll, etc....
These look great.
If you're in the market and don't want to throw out the kind of cash for a real knoll, don't hesitate to grab these. The company is great to work with as well.

A comprehensive/actual review would consist of a number of versions brought together and compared systematically,a comparison chart from the company selling the chair is hardly unbiased, and must be considered an advertisement...

So what the diff.
So how different is it from Knoll? Is your leather? How different that that leather? What about the Straps? ...What about the steel?

Not really...
What you're saying is for an actual review, which is always biased and very much the viewpoint of the reviewer. Their comparison chart is simply the materials used in each chair, the measurements, the color choices, country of origin and price. Comparison chart...just like the name states.

sorry, that last one was for azure...
I thought I'd already stated...and you can easily read all the details and see very good pics at their website, but here goes....
The leather looks really nice, not quite knoll, but really nice. Probably on par with the leather in my Mercedes. The frames are stainless steel, just like knoll and appear to be the same construction...welded, no visible welds, but clean. Leather straps look great that hold the cushions. Snaps at top and leather straps at the bottom. To me, these are every bit as nice as the DWR chairs that sell for $2900 ea. I did order these with the vinyl on the backs as it wears better. If you want the full leather option, it's a few hundred more. I don't really know what more to say...it's a nice chair. I'll enjoy sitting in it...it'll look great in our house.

On the metal frame, are there joints hidden under the first leather strap behind back cushion? Knoll version has none. I have seen all other reproductions have these anoying joints.

They're
hidden, but annoying? The presence of those joints might be the factor that permits a better price: if the frame were to disassemble at those points, the piece could be flat-packed for shipment. No?
If the frame as assembled is rigid, what's not to like? It would want to be a deep socket or a half-lapped joint, bolted. . .anybody?

By which
I mean an L-shaped extension off the side frame, lapped onto the cross bar in such a way that the joint is largely hidden by the straps. . .are any Barcelonas made to knock down in this way?

Knoll version has no joint. This is the ultimate focus I always have on when checking out all the repros. Back cusion's height of Knoll version when placed on metal frame lines up nicely but repros tend to surpass the metal frame's height.

No hidden joints here,
the frame is complete as shipped. No assembly required. Just un-bubble wrap everything, take the cushions out of the plastic wrapper and snap into place.

Hello M...
I found this forum when searching for a Barcelona chair. Like others, I'm looking for a high quality piece without the premium price for a stamp or the name.
You mentioned that the leather you received was comparable to your Mercedes. I was wondering if it was very supple or a little tougher? I like the leather from my friend's Lexus better than my mercedes since it feels a bit softer. I'm afraid I may feel the same way with the chairs.
Thanks for any info...

You will have a luxury chair far longer than a luxuary car buy the real thing, its a far better investment...

I agree about having furniture longer...
than your car, but you're not likely to have your cats chase each other and jump across your leather seats in the car either. If you're like most of us and live in a real home with kids, pets, etc, wouldn't you rather enhoy the furniture and not worry about whether or not the cats scratched your $5000 chair? Or if you've got money to burn....go ahead.
The leather on these are nice...not to stiff (which seams a bit cheap to me sometimes) and not too mushy or soft which seems like it wouldn't wear well. Not to sound like goldylocks, but it's just right.

Leather
The thicker stiffer the longer it lasts in most cases. The super rich cover in fine glove leather! Many fabrics last longer and wear better than leather.Leather is not the longest lasting material in cars...

Thanks for inputs
Sounds like right type of leather I'm looking for. If it's too stiff, it feels over done and cheap. I'm going to see if they can send me some samples of their leather to compare.
I found couple of other sites that looks promising. One was Moderncollections.com and the other was Dapperville.com. Anyone here know anything about these companies? They seem to specialize in modern classics.
I will see if I can get some more info from them so I can use as a comparison. If anything, maybe it will help the next person who is researching this chair.

If you like dapperville.com, you should also check out www.iqmatics.com. They carry very similar designs. All high-end imported from Europe.
