The PK sofa...
?.in a previous thread would certainly do well as yet another example of disfigured icon. It raises the interesting question of what constitutes the quality of the original. I am sure we all know that the Eames' would not have reached the recognition they so well deserve with this version of the 'Lachaise' chair. But the story-line would have been the same:-the use of innovative materials-the inspiration by the Lachaise sculpture in the MoMA etc. etc. So what makes it outstanding is not the general shape, the choice of materials etc. but the proportions, the details the balance between the base and the shell. The same could be said about the PK sofa. The general shape is the same, the construction and materials are similar. Again, the difference is in the details. It seems to me that there is a lesson there for the many aspiring designers that seem to rely only on the basic idea or the concept, rarely on the refinement of the execution-which, by the way requires much more time and hard labour to achieve.

george nelson clocks
In reference to the lovely silverware Nelson clock above -- they have several others as well and they're selling them and marking them as a BRAND called George Nelson!! Saying their clocks are inspired by the designer. WTF?!?

Now that is funny. And my eyes are bleeding....
The cushion clock is the most odd i've seen.
It has been on ebay for the past year in various vinyl
colors, mostly white. Is it really being sold at box stores?

Of course this thread wouldnt be complete
Of course this thread wouldnt be complete if we didnt include the people who were kind enough to "update" the classics - bringing them right in to the 21st century nouveau riche living room.
My personal favorite is the Eames Aluminum Tandem seating. Bravo.
