Bertoia Diamond chair restore?
I have 2 original diamond chairs that have seen better days. They are white and the vinyl coating is chipping of and cracked. I tried painting with a ceramic paint but they still keep chipping. Has anyone ever restored these and if so what is the best way to do this.

you will need to have them...
you will need to have them sand blasted and powdercoated and they will look show room wonderful.

Beware
I have had several diamonds redone as well at metal work shops and they do look really great. However, the last time I went in they had to melt the rubberized coating off and when they did that the welds were not strong enough anymore to stay together. The whole thing fell apart and was lost. I guess just make sure your welds are strong before they start hitting it with high power sand or melting the rubberized coating.

One more thing
Don't pay more than $75 because thats all it should be. $100 if you get the base a different color than the seat.

Grasshopper, did they try bla...
Grasshopper, did they try blasting before burning it off? I've heard that media blasting is not up to the job of removing the plastic coating (rislan?) I thought that burning maybe the only option sounds like it may not be the best!
I'm in a similar situation but am the chair is a side rather than a diamond,
I have done a few now (none where plastic coated) and had them stove enamelled, also i've always replaced the hardware with stainless (about £1 per for each not and bolt) so i have the option of keeping them outside in the future

Sandblasting not up to the challenge
Ya, they said sandblasting wasn't getting it off. That rubberized coating throws a real kink into things. The first couple I did turned out really well, then that one was a disaster. Tell more about the stove enamel. Is that cheaper than powdercoating?

I would say there is very little difference in terms of cost between the 2, I pay around £40 per chair I would say you do get a glossier finish (maybe not original for this chair but I like the glossy look) with enamelling than powder coating however I suspect powder coating gives a tougher more durable finish
Enamelling is good as you can match colours exactly as it is essentially paint, this isn?t possible with powdecoating on a small scale
I'll be having this chair powdercoated as the guy can turn them round in a day whereas my enameller can take months (the enameller is a much smaller operation)
Been doing a bit of research I think that having the chair chemically dipped (acid) to strip the rislan might be a good solution,
Main concern is cost by the time you?ve had them refinished + a new pad from knoll + glides it soon mounts up

Screws
Thanks for the info...Do you know where I can get some replacement screws and bolts that look similiar or exact repro to the original Bertoia screws?
