Mid Century Art Pottery Horse
Hi, I posted about this a while back, but could not really find info on it. I am now selling it. On e-bay of course. No snickers please. Could any one check it out and let me know what they think? Who knows, maybe you will find the one thing missing from your collection.

Shilling
is bidding on one's own items.
I don't think that's a fair accusation, but this isn't the place to promote your own listings either.....
It would be better off in 'ads'

Incidentally, I think it's ugly ;)

Sorry
I was not trying to "shill" my wares, I had posted here some time ago to find out what I could about this piece, but no one could really help me out on that. My fault, I am not a computer person and could not get the picture to upload. My husband hates this piece, I love it- but to keep a happy home without having to listen every night about how much he hates it, i decided to get rid of it. I have only had it about 5 weeks and would still like to know more about it. I was able to get my daughter to do the e-bay listing for me with pictures, so I was hoping that someone from here could tell me more about it. That is the end of it! So look or not!

My husband likes you
That is what my hubby says. It really is cool looking though. No idea about who might have made it? That really all I am looking for. Origin, ect. Some people think Danish, some Italian, even had someone say Gus McLaren.
Thanks

1. Shill bidding is...
1. Robert, shill bidding is different from "shilling".

To Shill (from the dictionary) :

verb (used with object)
to advertise or promote (a product) as or in the manner of a huckster; hustle: He was hired to shill a new TV show.

2. Lorri, sorry if I misunderstood the nature of your post. I didn't realize you were still seeking an identification. It is an interesting piece-I like it. Looks Italian to me. Maybe Raymor, Rosenthal Netter or the likes.... Honestly, though, I've never seen an Italian piece in that form. It also has a California pottery look about it similar in style to the works of Robert Maxwell.

It is fine, I'm alittle off right now because I really would like to keep it. But it is the one thing Richard can not stand in our house. I would love to know more about it before it is gone. Thank you for looking and letting me know what you think. Sorry if I sounded....well you know. Thanks again.

Lorri,
Maybe it's supposed to be an interpretation of a "Sea" Horse? I think it kind of looks like Mexican pottery.

Sea Horse
I had not thought of a sea horse. But now that you have brought it up it sure could be. I would think that the green color would go with that very well. And that would be perfect with the face!!! Thank you!!! And here I was thinking dragon because of the scales!! Could that maybe make it Scandinavian? That was what I thought when I got it.

Poor Richard
If you like this, I don't think you should give it up just because Richard doesn't like it--especially if, as you say, it's the one thing he can't stand. Keep your seahorse!

yes, poor Richard
You should see all of the other things that he has said nothing about. I have varied taste, he on the other hand only likes the very ornate type of stuff. Nothing like that will ever be in my house!!! I would feel like I am in a 1920's funeral home!!! So....I am trying to be nice, that dosen't happen often when it comes to my things. Plus we have only been married for 5 years, I woud like the honeymoon to last a little langer. It is the only thing he asked me to get rid of.

It does sort of look like Gus McLaren
Somewhat, but not completely

And it is creepy. It should be in a museum so it can only be viewed during the day. To frighten the schoolchildren, hah.

Thanks to everyone
I want to say thank you to everyone that has replied. It looks like it is going to a new home, and I'm sure everyone here is hoping there are no small chilren in it, looking at it from through all of your eyes, I guess it could be kinda scary. Anyway, my hope of putting to high of a reserve price didn't work, so gone it will be. And just when I was going to start displaying all my 50's and 60's art pottery vases. Lets hope he can live with them!!

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!!

my take
it has artistic value, but i don't personally care for the piece ... unlike much of the stylized animal stuff typical of raymor and others [as shown below and just three posts up].

i do like playing with the geometry of natural forms, but the present exhibit in question just doesn't do it for me.
