water kettle
there already was an interesting thread about coffee makers.. but what about water kettles, do you have any special one?
(although.. i think one of the most important aspects is how easy it is to pour a water without spilling :)

Picquot / New Maid
This Newmaid K3 (later Picquot) kettle is a real favourite of mine. It was originally designed in the late 30s but was first manufactured after the War - aluminium being one of the few materials readily available to manufacturers at the time.

my favorite
I had this Copco kettle, designed by Michael Lax, for a long time and really liked the chocolate brown enamel with the wood handle and knob. I never once used it though, so I finally sold it on ebay. But I'm keeping the photo of it!

I have had the Graves bird...
I have had the Graves bird kettle and train whistle kettle (in alternating shifts) on my stovetop since they were both designed (not the same one-I think this is my third bird and second whistle). I love the design, although it has been cheapened in my mind by the cheap Terget ones.

Out in my Long Island home, I go with a Cathrineholm yellow lotus (Grete Prytz) pot. Similar in style to the brown Lax above

Well I'm not afraid to admit
that I have the cheap Target Graves one -- I didn't know what it was but picked it up at a thrift store when the glass one I had been using broke, and I'm ambivalent about this one. I like that the handle is way the hell up in the air and doesn't get hot, but I don't like how these metal ones make a ton of noise when heating up (until I've had my coffee, it's shhhhhhhhhhhhh please). I don't mean the whistle thing, I always remove those and stuff them in a drawer, but the metal itself makes noise when it's first heating up.

So it's days are numbered, but it's working for now.

Here's another one I recently found but can't identify
Although I haven't tried too hard yet. I don't recognize the logo.

But this kind cannot go on the heat, right? This is more for pouring hot water in for steeping tea, yes?

Tea kettle recommendation
brnki

Take a look at the Luca Trazzi CURLS tea kettle for Francis Francis. This is a solid easy to handle, easy to pour, and well designed object. You may recognize this designer from his more popular X2 coffee machines.

the one you picked seems more form than function.

looks difficult to fill .

most importantly, the handle is wayyy up top which makes for difficult pouring. the centre of balance is very high as is the water level. i prefer a water kettle with a low handle that, when pouring, does not tweak my wrist.

it is beautiful.
Classic form and function.
Easy to fill and the handle is well balanced.
The Honer harmonic whistle, two-tone, is swell.

My only complaint is it is rather large.
It was designed for restaurant use.
I have a 5 burner gas cook-top and the scale is fine.

And not a wrist breaker at all...

"Chantal teakettles have stood for optimum quality with distinctive styling for over 20 years. All Chantal kettles have premium features which distinguish them from the rest. An extra large lid opening allows for easy cleaning. The smooth flat base ensures maximal contact with the burner, including induction heating, for rapid boiling. And you will never boil dry thanks to the pleasant authentic Hohner? harmonica whistle that plays two notes. All of these features plus unparalleled durability; a stainless steel construction is designed to last a lifetime and Chantal stands behind that guarantee.

The Pro Design SL37-22 kettle is Chantal's latest creation. Winner of the 2005 Adex Design Award, the Pro Design comprises an open black heat resistant handle and a handsome brushed stainless steel finish. 3 ¼ quart (3 ltr) capacity."
