laughing my ass off FAKE WEGNER SIGNATURE
I REALLY must admit this is the WORST faking I have EVER seen of a Wegner signature
Not only is is blatantly clear to see that the "mark" has been made with an amateurs burner but for the seller to believe it by showing a start price of over £300 is just taking the P***
take a look and dont wet your seat with laughter

As the American circus impresario P.T. Barnum said:
"There's a sucker born every minute."
Clearly that is what this seller is banking on, and will more then likely be successful with an uneducated buyer.

I dont get
I dont get what the big deal is. It's CLEARLY a piece by graffiti artist Harold Wegner. Harold is kind of the anti-Banksy. Where Banksy is witty and subversive Harold is driven by a much rougher, gut instinct. I'm surprised this is the first time we've seen his work here...

Hey that's the same desk/table I've been trying to ID for awhile now
Seriously, I bought one that does not have the drawers, and looked at another that did have the drawers. I've since seen another variation of it too, with drawers on both sides.
I posted a thread with a partial label on one, was trying to ID it. Never thought it was a Wegner though! LOL
But seriously, from those 2 labels, any possible ID?

Wee google
OK, love that term "wee google" and am now adopting it as my own new and hilarious phrase, but I will cite you, MarkTulip, as the author, when pressed.
Secondly, has anyone noticed that the poster of the chair on UK ebay never really refers to Hans Wegner, just H. Wegner? What a subtle way to infer authenticity, yet stay just careful enough that no one can really call him on it. That careful way of phrasing the description just compounds the duplicity, in my opinion.

An authority speaks
Gianni Sacchetto di Frutta, shown here with his signature chair design, has issued the following statement:
"Thissa desk, it is not real. Do not bid on it. Someone-a has-a been busy with-a the woodburning tool-a."
There you have it, folks.

di Frutta is just trying to...
di Frutta is just trying to distract you from the obvious truth:
Harold Wegner is in fact Gianni Sancchetto Grafutta, badass grafitti outlaw. Here did some less sublime works too:

My sister is fond of telling me that I "dont always know what I'm talking about, but I usually say it with authority"
What I'm afraid of is that someone is going to stumble onto this forum, do some quick value searches, and start attributing things to de Frutta on eBay.
EAMES ERA WEGNER KNOLL BRUTALIST deFRUTTA STYLE ATOMIC RETRO BANKSY MODERN SHOWER CAP L@@K!!!! RARE $TYLE$.
This Shower/Bathing cap is a rare retro ethnic Eames Era Italian deFrutta style cap. You cant find shower caps like this any more! RARE! (SERIOUS BIDS ONLY)

Bold?
That's what the Sancchettos are all about: boldness...
LuciferSum - Wouldn't it be fun to "create" diFrutta as a designer by purposely putting items on ebay and watch the whol thing grow?
Oh, and of cause you would win the auctions if you made an offer that cannot be refused!
by the way, a brutalist showering cap - priceless, can you make a sketch?

I'm game
I will find the tackiest thing I have slated for sale next week on ebay and cite a possible attribution to G. S. di Frutta. If the fifties are now the "Eames Era" and the seventies are the "Panton Era", I think we can claim the eighties as the "di Frutta Era" with relatively little effort. O, such delicious wickedness.

More amusing still
would be to figure out WHO the bikini-clad "Di Frutta" guy is, and then invite him to this forum. It's a shame he's unaware of his cult following.
Maybe he'll stumble upon it unwittingly, someday... while researching his mahogany association number, or something.

Gianni is the result of a Speedo google image search. Though I'm sure he's equally google-able as a fabulous designer, if we only knew his actual name. Or maybe he will be now that we know what he should be named...??

I feel ashamed
to have started this fruit full debate about banksy versys gianno verspedo (versace by disguise) but feel rightly so to those of us who shoud club together and create a totally fictitiuos designer and just load the odd piece to ebay and see who buys and who pee's them selves
Let the challenge begin.
I wonder is any of you have heard or the rosewood cod piece exqusitly hand carved by andreas ebbesen. HE schooled under ron jeremy and took his designs to the masses in disguise!
I will be listing such RARE and GENUINE design on EBAY soon so
get your hard earned $$$ £££ ??? ready as you can expect a fierce bidding war.

Should we
Should we establish some set of rules to govern Gianni Saccha DeFrutta's designs? Or was he just that prolific as to design both a Brutalist showercap AND the infamous SpeedoChair?
Should everything be some how related to the saccha de frutta?

but how do you starry-eyed dreamers expect di Frutti to successfully pull this thing off, and hobnob with the other design swells, when he doesn't even own a pair of pants?

Making Gianni legit
Woody, I thought we were trying to make him into a real designer. If I put a picture of Gianni on there in all his glory sans pants, everyone would know it was a joke.
Besides, my daughter and son do this ebay stuff with me and they would think I had totally lost it if I had them put a picture of a man in a speedo next to his platter. They're already looking for excuses to have me committed. (American vernacular, to have someone committed means to send them to the insane asylum, or as we call here in the US, the nut hut.)
And, OMG, I know that man's head lamp is so over the top. I bought it for myself without turning it on and then when I got it home, it was just toooo scary with those two colored eyes. Yikes!
