Show us your bookends!
I'm looking for some bookends, I like the Jack Jax but what else is there to choose from? Doesn't seem to be much about in MCM terms..

The one time I went to IKEA
I looked around, was not impressed, but discovered a bunch of the coolest, cheapest bookends! Nicely designed, study and dirt cheap. Plastic ones, metal ones and metal wire ones that are idea for shelving.

Those Carl Aubock ones (never heard of him) look spectacular, really really beautiful, A shame to put books near them. Great knuckle dusters too if your friends put your books back in the wrong in order.
My book ends cost about six hundred dollars. One is called 'Mies in Berlin' the other 'Mies in America'

Rocks
My bookends are a couple of smooth, wave-tossed rocks that I picked up off the beach on Cape Cod. They are interesting to look at, heavy enough to really hold the books and came at the very acceptable price of nada!

Simple bent
Simple bent metal Ikea bookends. I dont have room on the shelves for anything fancy. I loved the bronze ones, but they were like $500 from DWR.

I think your spring thing is actually a napkin holder. I have one too.
I like these from IKEA. Unfortunately, the Baltimore store doesn't have them and I would have to go to College Park north of DC to get them, which is a bit too far with today's gas prices. I'll just have to wait until i'm down there for some other reason, I guess.
They have a bunch that fit onto the edge of the shelf but I am not crazy about the way those look, plus then you sorta have to have the books pulled forward on the shelf.
The first bookend here is $3, second is $.49, and the third is $5. Not bad.

Napkin holder?
Though it would work quite well as one, it is really a bookend. The bottom of the piece has a label with the maker named: "Philadelphia Manufacturing Company" along with instructions on "how to properly use this bookend".
I did some digging and found a similar patent granted to another company back in 1935:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=igxZAAAAEBAJ&dq=spring+bookend
(I LOVE the Google patent search! So many wonderful items to look at and be inspired by. It has been a great help to me when researching many items I have purchased over the years..)
You have some great bookends yourself!

I stand corrected!
I'm pretty sure mine is a napkin holder, though. It has a half sphere where yours has the slab and coin, and it's shorter. And not labeled as a bookend.
I like the red hand bookends.

Another one by the same designer
I like the red hand one as well. Been looking for one like that and haven't had any luck..
Found one other bookend by the same designer in the link I provided. (Kind of a fun one, with a thermometer in the end!):
