Recent Ralph Lauren bedding
Since it was introduced last summer, i have been lusting after this colorful pattern, called ISLE CAPRI.
I just bought a complete bed of this now discontinued, high thread count pattern

Not being catholic
I don't quite understand the meaning.
First impression is that you might be suggesting that the colors are too bright.

Back in the mid 1990's
I sold bedding and bath at Dayton's in Minneapolis, and I got behind the varied bedding patterns, so my bedroom's neutral and I can change the 'look' with the bedding. Yes, I have beiges and solids, but it's nice to have some bright patterns too.
Ralph Lauren is not known for super bright colors, so this was a real departure for him. I first saw the bed at Bllomingdale's and it was quite striking.
It was an expensive line; the standard pair of pillow cases sold for $99.00! I got the whole bed (duvet, flat and fitted sheet, pair of pillow cases, floral sham, bedshirt and throw pillow) for $299.00.

Bed
The bedding looks appropriate for that style of bed... I wonder how it might look on a more "modern" bed. What type of bed do you have barry?

Thumbs up from Denmark,...
Thumbs up from Denmark, Barry! :) In the right surroundings I could see this RL bedding working very well. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek with its calm blue colours and a little joyful sass which I really like.
I will always have respect for people who step out of their comfort zone and push themselve and their taste forward. It's a very healthy and rewarding process, I believe.

you prefer only soft solid colors?
In my world an all beige bed would be a bit boring.

I have the Tribeca bedding from RL
But,oddly enough,it's really sedate, appearing more like a repeating pattern of Navajo diamond medallions in a range of grays and black.Interestingly enough,I would think the "Tribeca" nomenclature would be appropriate for a more vibrant and offbeat design.

Too bright and high contrast for me...but...
Although I use only white beddng I have a parade of pillows that come and go withthe seasons. I like me a nice pop of color and I like seing different colors at different times of the year when the quality of light shifts in the sky. At our place back in Massachusetts, the really crisp blu-white light coming in our living room really set off greens. In the summer I favored reds. It's fun to mess with color and as MD_Andersen put it, push your tastes forward.

Gag!
I absolutely cannot tolerate that woman! And the entire concept of 'semi-homeade' irritates the bejeezus out of me. I'd much rather take barry's noisy sheets that put up with even 5 minuts of that dippy woman! Ok, now for how I really feel....hwarf!

Marimekko's a bit too expensive
A full size sheet is over $30.00, usually.
I don't have any sets as bright as the Ralph Lauren's, but the quality is super good and it'll be my 'summer look this winter'.

sorry.
I had to google a few variations of the name to find her.
Sarah dee, etc.
Now i'm pissed that i know her name.
(i bet she has those sheets)
I just don't get it.
Of all the choices out there...
As Olive says, get good quality solids and throw in some fun
seasonal prints.
Marimekko is a no-brainer.
Just get the pillow cases.
Overstock has great 1200tc white cotton for summer.
And great flannels for winter. (i like the bedroom cold, no heat)
Mix and match the solids.

Marimekko
I have the dark grey/black Marimekko cloth shower curtain that I bought years ago on sale at Crate and Barrel. The temp. dropped in Phoenix and I didnt have enough blankets (busy med. resident) so I ripped open the shower cutain package and used it as a quilt that winter. I never used it for the shower. It is now a cover for my small parrot's night cage.
The bed set is a little bright for me, Barry, but I bet you have to see it in person to appreciate it.

Hmm. Set of two "fuck" pillow cases, for $225.
When I FIRST saw them, I thought them pointlessly crude-- but, now that I see that they cost $225, they suddenly take on a dignified 1,000 thread-count splendor.
A fine line between vulgar & refined, n'est-ce pas?

I see them appealing more to
a blue-collar lottery-winner type, who suddenly finds himself getting laid after a lifetime of celibacy. Who but a recent virgin would find the word "fuck" so titillating?
That's the irony of self-conscious potty-talk and shock value-- if it appeals to you, it's only proof of neophytism, not sophistication.

I still like it and I'll enjoy it.
Humorous or not, I'm surprised at how mean-spirited some of the replies are.
Instead of some of you not like the design of the bedding, you make comments about the person's intelligence. This is a real surprise...and not a nice one.

As rockland put it, just get the pillowcases. Since I'm handy with a sewing machine, I occasionally buy just one pillow case and turn it into two toss pillows. A big bang for a small buck. I've done that with the Marimekko Unikka, above. I've also discovered that I can take a standard American style sheet set and convert the top and bottom sheets into a duvet cover. Since I haunt the closeouts, it's a great way to get what would be too expensive otherwise. Have you ever seen what a high threadcount, king-size duvet cover generally runs for? YIKES! And by going with just the duvet over a typical American sheets and blankets arrangement, I save money and storage space! Not to mention that it takes me about 30 seconds to make the bed!

Barry--
I WAS referring to the Kiki de Montparnasse bedding that dcwilson linked to, immediately before-- pillow cases with embroidered "FUCK" and "SLEEP" on either side. Sorry if that was unclear.
(Didn't you find it a wee bit strange that I'd keep using the word "fuck", were I weighing the virtues of your Ralph Lauren sheet set?)

you don't think:

is negative and a bit mean-spirited? Gosh, I sure do.
If you read through my posted opinions, you'd be hard-pressed to find any comments that might be thought of as commenting on the person doing the posting.

Fer-cryin-out-loud, Barry--
I was imagining the person who'd buy the 'fuck' pillow cases, I was NOT talking about you.
Did you fail to note that I ALREADY denied attacking you, and offered a totally plausible explanation? If I had the chutzpah to do the former, why would I then reverse myself and deny it?
Must I preface every comment I make with the disclaimer "this isn't about barrympls OR his pillow shams", from now on?

Barry, must we have these...
Barry, must we have these conversations every quarter? You need to grow some thicker skin. No one was talking about you. And, if someone was being mean about a design, who cares? It is not about you. Or even the designer of the product in question. It is about the design itself. Lighten up. They make pills for this you know...

Thanks Olive and W-H-C
Obviously your judgement is far superior to mine.
This is what happens when I simply try to show something cool that I find, then instead of opinions about it, the thread becomes something else entirely.
I don't require judgement on my posts from you, Olive. You seem to think that any comment about the level of replies is 'whining', then so be it. It's not anymore your forum site than it is mine, and I thank you to not make a comment that might appear to be personal. You don't know me, and I don't appreciate your passing judgement on me at all.
The sarcastic 'humor' usually found here these days are usually not all that funny. I have just as much right to my opinion as you, don't I?
I'm sorry that my post causes you guys to make such comments and 'jokes'.
It would be refreshing to see some nicer comments, but I guess a number of collectors are just waiting to make silly or stupid comments. I do too, but nowhere as often as you guys do.
Such a bunch of interesting people!

I have no problem if someone doesn't like my taste
but in a joking way, some of the replies have a way of making me (at least) feel like it's something of a personal attack,
People have no problem claiming IT'S UGLY, rather than IT'S NOT MY TASTE. People then post 'funny' pictures to make fun of the person. It doesn't just happen to me...I see others doing to others too.
It's not very civil, and sometimes, it hurt my feelings. Based on the reactions to my reactions, I'm not allowed to have feelings, which is a shame.
It's been quite a while since I got a compliment from anyone on something I've posted. It has happened, but it's damn rare.

I've kept out of this until now
but Barry, if you post stuff to invite criticism, be it positive or negative, then criticism is what you should expect... it's never going to be all good.
It's rather an extreme design, so has invited extreme opinions.
A lot of the comments you feel were negative and derogatory were actually about some other bedding altogether.
The culture of posting funny pics started on the Mahogany Association thread, and is actually rather amusing- Brent took it in good humour, although I'm sure he would dearly love that thread to disappear ;)
