Farewell Arne Vodder
Arne Vodder passed away this past Sunday December 27.

"Born in Denmark in 1926, architect Arne Vodder studied in Copenhagen under his friend and mentor the legendary Danish designer Finn Juhl. The pair later worked together as they went on to establish themselves as the pre-eminent Scandinavian designers of the mid-century period."

Thanks for this the beloved.

Sad news, but he certainly left behind his legacy and his influence will live on.

Obituries like this would never usually be reported in the mainstream media so thanks for the post.

Verification
Hi Guys

Been COMPLETELY unable to find any verification in Denmark or on any Danish sites about his death apart from the one source in Australia.

Would make a difference to have it confirmed 100% or the poor sod might think we are trying to kill him off

If he is still alive and kicking he could use the classic quote,

`Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated`.

If you look down the page
you will see photos of Arne Vodder and Anton Assaad, owner of Great Dane Furniture together working on the re-issues.

Simon, it is surprising and sad that the Danish sites are not covering this. I would think this is big news, right up there with Wegner passing.

Arne Vodder the legacy
Dear Design addicts,

My name is Anton Assaad i am the founder and director of Great Dane. I have had the privelage of working with Arne for the last 2 years with the goal of getting his designs back into production in Denmark. It is true sadly that Arne passed away on Sunday the 27th of Dec 2009. I am pleased that Arne was able to view and approve of the new production, which i think gave him some joy. We will be re launching the range very soon.

A homepage in honor of Arne Vodder
I'm one of the granddaughters of Arne Vodder, and my family and I are right now working on creating a homepage, where we will put up information about Arne and his work to honor him. We were working on this with my grandfather before he passed away :o( I talked a lot with him about it and when we figured out how much interest there was for him on the internet we decided to create a page with all of his work and history. I don't know of any media in Denmark that has written about his death, but that is surely the way Arne would have wanted it to be. He always loved to play and work with his passion and did it all the way to the end...

Best regards Julie

Thanks
First of all thanks for all the beautiful words about my grandfather. That's all ways nice in a hard time like this. We have lost a close person next to us with a big heart...
We're unfortunately not close with a homepage, but it will come...

Hej Julie
Thank you for asking.
Having made some contributions to this website's Index by writing the basic biography of a number of designers, I would love to see the same kind of information on your grand father. That might be a good start. I am sure that more questions will follow. If you prefer you can always write it in Danish I will gladly translate.

Yes, a biography would be a great place to start, as I am sure that there is all kinds of interesting things to be said about how he became involved with furniture design, the people he worked with, etc.

I see that there are around 200 of Arne Vodder's designs shown at furnitureindex.dk , so my initial thought of creating a site that serves as a sort of catalog raisonné of his work might be a difficult thing to achieve, in addition to including images of his most familiar and best known designs.

Additional candid images, like the one on the Facebook page, that show him at work, are always nice to see.
