metropolitan home
metropolitan home has bitten the dust. no more magazine
I thought the magazine had some good issues, not always the best home features, but as a modern magazine I hate to see it go. El Decor is its sister magazine.

I enjoyed
Flipping through Met Home, as there was always one or two things that piqued my interest. Their food section was especially good. Also, you could get a subscription for very cheap or for free.

Met Home has/had a much more modern aesthetic than Elle Decor.

Not

to be confused with Metropolis -- which I assume is still going strong ?

(I tend to be behind the curve on cultural issues, having my head stuck firmly in the Modernist Past. . .!)

Yeah --

I recall the oversized version -- maybe meant to echo the old Village Voice tabloid format, or something (being NYC based. . .) Did it come originally from one of the schools -- Cooper Union, Pratt ? Or am I making that up. . .

Wow, no more Met Home
I was my first modernist mag, before Dwell came a long. I got Met Home for years right up until we moved to Santa Fe. Except for Dwell, I jetisoned everything, including Metropolis, at that point. Sorry to see Met home go. I was introduced to a wider spectrum of modernism by reading it. Too bad.

Wow
As a subscriber, I don't recall receiving a letter to that effect. I wonder if they'll just sub in Elle Decor for the remaining issues?

Modernism is my favorite and I would truly miss it if they were to shut down.

Didn't care for the rag - but...
Didn't care for the rag - but my condolences nonetheless. They got to where they only featured homes that were too perfect. I like my modern with a side of eclecticism.

Far from perfect, imo
The magazine was never strictly modern. They always featured a variety of architecture and decor styles, usually centered around modern but not always.

It was worth looking at for free or a few bucks, anyway.

Not much, whitespike
I'm actually thinking of letting my one remaining paper subscription laspe...dwell. I'm a charter subscriber, kinda feel bad about it, but I'm tired of them rehashing the same old thing over and over.

I don't know
Everything that I've subscribed to in the past is disappearing... And I've let my dwell subcription run out.

There are a few non-US titles that I would peruse every now and then... But they are so expensive to purchase or subscribe to.

My 2 Current Favs:
Modernism as mentioned above and I also just recently started a subscription to Garden Design that's really nice if your modern design interests carry over to the outdoors. I subscribe to Dwell as well but, it's not really my thing.

The only
The only mag I've ever found truly relevant was Metropolis. Modernism is a bit too focused for me - I don't really care for Modern pottery, for example, or Deco jewelry. Metropolis trends a little corporate, but I still find it interesting as they deal with a lot of preent day issues. And their typographer has finally stopped taking amphetamines, so its getting easier to read :)

What should I replace Metropolitan Home subscription with?
I'm open to any suggestions...

I live in a bungalow that's furnished with arts & crafts, asian and modern. The perfect magazine would cover architecture, gardens and decor and would include stories that encompassed more than one room, often enhanced with the house plan. (I know sounds Architectural Digest which I already get but are there similar magazines? Maybe some that are even more architecture based? There's something about seeing the plan of the house that really ties it all together for me)

Any ideas?

My Met Home subscription was moved to Woman's Day! Not a publication I'd ever pick for myself. You'd think Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S would switch subscribers to Elle Decor at least then they'd have a chance at retaining them. (I even asked if I could be moved only to be told no and then given the number to request a refund - It's Woman's Day or the highway for me).

I will say Conde Nast does a much better job of retaining customers when they close magazines. When Domino went under, I was moved to Cookie which was not my thing. They happily switched me over to Architectural Digest when I asked. Gotta say, it was a good move on their part. I wasn't planning on keeping Domino but I'll continue to subscribe to AD.

Hmmm
You should have been switched to Elle Decor. I was for what would have been my final issue of Met Home.

I would say that Elle Decor is a fair substitute for the decor style that you described. It tends to have a more "eclectic" aesthetic.

Dwell has a significant emphasis on architecture, but focuses primarily on modern, pre-fab, green, etc.

I have always liked
France's Cote Sud, Cote Ouest and sometime Cote Est (although the latter one not so much) because they show ideas that are outside the box, so to speak - not all modernist by any stretch, but still, good and mostly original ideas. They're expensive, but if you have a Border's close by you might pick one up and leaf through it. Good luck.
(Oh, I forgot, if you're able to read French, that would definately be helpful.)
