Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris. In the early fifties, he began designing furniture for Thonet and in 1958, became the main designer for Artifort. He designed a series of sculptural furniture in the mid-sixties with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances.

In 2004, Metrocs asked Pierre Paulin to redesign this sideboard, which is originally one of his early designs from the 1950s and the actual reproduction of it started in 2006. As well as Paulin's F031 Petit Desk, the F061 sideboard is simplistic and practical.
