Philippe Starck studied at the Ecole Camondo in 1968 but is essentially autodidact. In the seventies, he was mainly known as interior designer but in 1979, he founded 'Starck Product' and became also interested in architecture. In 1982, he decorated the private apartments of President Mitterand at the Elysée. He designed the famous 'Costes' chair in 1984 for the Cafe Costes in Paris. He became internationally renowned in the eighties as furniture designer, interior designer and architect.
He designed furniture for Vitra, Driade, Baleri, Disform, Cassina, Alessi, Thomson, Idée...
