He studied sculpture at the Akademie der Künste Berlin in 1946 and in 1948, aerodynamics at the Sorbonne in Paris. Colani is certainly one of the most famous designers of our time. Nature is the central concept in his philosophy of bio-dynamics. He has not only designed products such as cars, motorcycles and aircrafts but also many other common items that affect us in our daily lives.

The sekt wine cooler was designed in the mid 1980's for the Ritzenhoff glass company (Marsberg Germany). It is part of a range of glasses called "Ovoid". There is another version of the cooler with a clear glass base. Prof Colani was the chief designer for Ritzenhoff from 1979 - 1985.
