Alain Monnens graduated with honours as an industrial designer at the media & design academy in Genk.
After working at npk industrial design in Leiden, the Netherlands he washed ashore in West-Flanders. Here he had the pleasure to work for Daikin Europe, Oostende; Obumex, Staden; Vero Duco, Veurne; Mewaf, Kortrijk; Mobilux, Roeselare; Delta Light, Wevelgem; tossB, Zeebrugge.
In 2000 he founded his design studio that was recently renamed in idam. Over the years his design follow a rather organic and harmonious line.
As from 2005 he is also teaching design and form at the University College of West-Flanders, dept. PIH in Kortrijk.

The '2Link' is a built-in model that allows the creation of attractive and atmospheric light lines. It is a unique system, which offers plenty of creative possibilities for lighting your room both elegantly and efficiently. By varying the composition, it is possible to create one or more focus points within the same space.

This hanging lamp produces a very agreeable and comfortable light. The special features have been obtained by a combination of sandblasted synthetic materials and an electronically controlled 36 or 58 W fluorescent lamp. Available with an integrated dimmer/switch allowing direct control of the light output on the appliance.

The 'Sphere' can be combined in many different ways: as a table or floor lamp, a single hanging lamp, a triple hanging lamp, a seven-armed hanging lamp, a wall lamp and a wall lamp with plug. Its soft light and its simple but elegant outline bring a warm ambiance to every room. The 'soft touch' finishing gives an added dimension to a design concept which feels instinctively relaxing.
