David Scott began designing furniture at the age of 18 as means of improving life in a dorm room. 5 years and a BFA later, he ended up in Japan working with an international team of artists designing and building nightclubs by day, and inhabiting them by night. The learning curve was fast, steep, and a great deal of fun.
Upon returning to the states, he was accepted to the Master's of Architecture program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). After the first year, he decided that borrowing $25,000 a year to build imaginary projects was not as much fun as doing the real thing. He convinced Lawrence (Larry) Scarpa, who had been an instructor for one of his classes to hire him to build some metal stairs for Pugh + Scarpa's new office, and Desu was born. Much collaboration with the Pugh + Scarpa team followed, and other architects in the burgeoning vanguard of the LA architecture scene became clients. Paying the rent became less of a problem, and in the off hours, product ideas became realities and were tucked away for a future line.
In 2000, he moved to New York in order to develop the Desu line and bring it to market. Desu has been steadily growing ever since, and he looks forward to working toward its continued expansion. His philosophy for the company has always been to build what they wants, the best way possible. He spends a great deal of my time seeking out the highest quality materials and vendors that are masters of their discipline. Learning about new technologies and how they can incorporate them into their designs is one of his favorite pursuits, and keeps their ideas fresh. His goal for Desu is to continue on this trajectory of innovation and to above all else, enjoy doing it.

cellulose fiber + resin
Length:192cm - Width:108cm - Height:76cm (75.6"l x 42.7"w x 30"h)
The indoor/outdoor 'Facet' Dining Table features a smooth table top with gracefully bowed edges. Inspired in part by military aircraft, the dynamic interplay of angled lines and beveled edges creates a sense of flight in the piece. The 'Facet' Dining table is heavy and durable, and has a feeling somewhere between wood and stone. It is made of certified renewable cellulose fiber and resin, a material created from sheets of paper that have been heated and compressed with resin to form a completely solid slab. The natural fiber and resin bond fully so the material does not release harmful gases into the air, or 'off-gas'. The cellulose fiber used is harvested from sustainable, managed forests in North America. As a testament to its durability, cellulose fiber and resin slabs are commonly used for eco-friendly kitchen countertops, and variations of the material have been used in the marine industry in the construction of skateboard ramps.

height: 25,5 cm (10") - width: 5 cm (2") - depth: 3,8 cm (1,5")
This cast bronze door knocker brings old world craftsmanship and unadorned utility together to create a minimalist sculpture. The hefty weight of the handle feels good in your hand, and has slightly recessed sides to intuitively grasp. The bronze is a living finish patina, which will naturally wear and color according to use and environment.

Length:92cm - Width:15cm - Height:4cm (36.25"l x 6"w x 1.5"h)
This playful but sophisticated coat rack was the result of a domestic argument. David Scott was out of closet space, and the closets were overflowing. But he had an aversion to wall hooks--empty and unattractive many months out of the year. He created Symbol, a practical object one is happy to look at year-round. During the coatless summer months the Symbol hangs as a purely aesthetic piece, as the hooks lay flat and belie their function. When needed, the hooks pull smoothly out to help you organize your stuff.
