Beauty in simplicity. Crafted by making ingenious use of the traditional dipping technique. The electric cord seems to merge fluently into the flexible synthetic lamp shade. The shade has the same feel as the cord: soft and supple. The light shines through softly. The Softlamp has recently been renewed. The new Softlamp has been improved on a number of points. A better type of paste is used to dip the lamp. Also, the overall finish of the lamp was improved. But above all the lamp is now fitted with a durable 7 watts economical light bulb. It lasts 8,000 hours, which is eight times as long as a traditional bulb. The economical light bulb develops virtually no heat, which prevents the synthetic material from discolouring.
The lamp has been purchased by, among others, the New York Moma, the San Francisco Moma and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. Nomination and honourable mentioning Rotterdam design prize 1996. Design-Plus Award 1997.
