 Founded in 1944
 |
Emeco (The Electric Machine and Equipment Co.) was founded in 1944 by Wilton C. Dinges. Emeco's manufacturing process is the result of a collaboration with ALCOA to develop a seaworthy chair for military use. ALCOA's scientists and Navy engineers consulted with Emeco to produce the chairs in the Hanover, PA workshops and they're still made there today.
Emeco is the only company in the world using this exclusive trademarked process to produce the chairs. The specially treated aluminium alloy material is rust-free, lightweight, and tough enough, legend has it, to survive a torpedo blast. A 77-step process transforms the chairs from rough frame to sculptures masterwork. Life expectancy 150 years.
