The idea behind '3x12' is to reduce a full shelf into four boards, which are used as the horizontal part.
The content of the shelf itself - the files - are being used as the vertical element. It is very simple to build or to dismantle '3x12' because there are no connecting parts at all - everything has just to be stacked!
