SWEDEN

Founded in 1992
Materia was founded by Kersti Sandin and Lars Bülow, both interior architects (SIR/MSA) and industrial designers (MSD). They had previously worked for several years as designers to some of the leading furniture and lighting companies in Sweden. Production began in Tranås in 1994. In 1998 the company head office was moved from Stockholm and the 'blue factory' was acquired. The workforce grew, and in autumn 2002 the production facilities were further extended with the addition of the 'yellow factory' for assembly and logistics. In the same year a new showroom was opened at Sibyllegatan 34, on the corner of Karlavägen in Stockholm. Under the guidance of Kersti Sandin and Lars Bülow, Materia has quickly grown into one of the most prominent design companies in the industry. Since 2004 Materia has been an independent brand of the office furniture group Kinnarps.

The magazine holder 'Subway' is inspired from the classic advertisement pillars with layers and layers of posters. Subway's powerful expression makes it an expressive ingredient in all kinds of public areas. The standalone cylindrical model lends itself to placement in the middle of the room where the magazines are accessible from all directions. Textile-covered rubber bands keep the magazines in place. The Subway is available in three different heights as a floor standing model, and for wall mounting.
