The Mandarin chair was designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1986 for Knoll International. In his design, inspired by the Chinese Ming dynasty, Mr. Sottsass first chose primary colors, blue, red, green, gray and black, combined in different variations (see sketches and images from the book SOTTSASS ASSOCIATI, published in 1998 by Gakken, Japan). The Mandarin chair is no longer in production.
This vintage set of 6 chairs was recently re-foamed and reupholstered using original Knoll high quality fabric in the original colors. Two chairs have a red fabric for the back (Knoll Circa K10549) and black fabric for the seat (Knoll Circa K105413), while four chairs have a blue fabric for the back (Knoll Circa K10544) and the same black fabric for the seat. The blond wood armrest is vapor bent and wraps around the entire chair with unbelievable harmony. Excellent overall vintage condition, immediately available in New York City.
