GUHL, WILLY (1915-2004) & BIRCHER, RUDOLF (1911-2009).
Bookcase in 4 elements, can be installed as one large wall or separated.
Steel pillars, cabinets in ash, aluminium sheet sliding doors, lacquered wooden shelves, nickeled steel book holders.
This bookcase does not need any fixing to be installed, its own weight is distributed along six adjustable points and holds perfectly against any wall.
Realised at Zurich School of Applied Arts by Willy Guhl's design class in 1949-1950. Remained in Rudolf Bircher's office until his passing in 2009.
The Editor AWESO based on this prototype the "Etagère Classic" model, still in production nowadays since 1954 (see photo 5).
"Piece unique", sold with a certificate of authenticity from Rudolf Bircher's heir.
Museum item, complete, perfect original condition and beautiful patina for a Swiss "Prouvé-type" work.
