These stunning , naturalistical Chinese Yixin Zisha teapots from Nationlist period, modeled after a section of a flowering prunus tree trunk with the handle, spout and lid in branch form, the bodies with flowering branches and warts, and where made from granular ?zisha? clay (containing mica, quartz and iron) and found only in Yixing (pronounced ee-shing), in the east coast province of Jiangsu, an area situated 120 miles northwest of Shanghai, China. These teapots also have an internal filter at the base of the spout. The base and lid with impressed potter?s seal marks. Note the greater amount of detail and the way those details were executed. This detail adds a greater value for collectors who like this style. So long as it's not overwrought, intricate flourishes are expected with this kind of organic look. None of the teapots shown have been used but one of the joys of owning this style of pot is brewing with it and allowing a natural patina to develop. Because of all the tree knots and floral details, the changes in color saturation will be more pronounced between the smooth and rough areas. The tea staining adds another layer to the intricate look.
Height: 9.5cm. 3 3/4in, Length: 19 cm, 7 1/2 inches. Internal rim chip to lid of one of the pots.
