Inspired by nature, Hwang Jong Nae decorated her pottery with unrestrained brushwork, the traditional method that flourished during the 13-14 century and is reborn through her lifelong research.
One of the first modern potters in Korea, Hwang Jong Nae was born to a pottery artists family. After studying painting in Ewha Womans University and MFA in Ceramics, College of Art and Design, Ewha Womans University, she spent her long career on teaching the next generation and reviving the long lost Punchong porcelain, the traditional Korean pottery style.
She has been holding numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1961 and is highly praised in the domestic and international art world. One of her works graces the British Museum as a fine example of modern Korean pottery.
