Jaime Hayon Works
by Jaime Hayon (Author) / Die Gestalten Verlag (Editor)

The Spanish designer and artist Jaime Hayon is a rising star in the international
creative scene. It s safe to say that he will be one of the most influential designers
in the years to come.
Hayon embodies a new type of creative Renaissance man, who thanks to his
interdisciplinary approach and extraordinary talent can realize his unique
stylistic language across various areas and media. Whether he is creating interior
design, furniture, illustration, tableware or decorative vases and ceramics,
Hayon s signature style always shines through. Seemingly without effort, his
designs coherently bring together diametrical opposites such as opulence and
practicality, sensuality and precision as well as finesse and restraint.
This first monograph about Jaime Hayon presents the full spectrum of his work.
The book features projects such as his extensive ceramic installation for Bisazza
in Milan and the interior design for La Terraza del Casino, an exclusive restaurant
in central Madrid, as well as designer toys and furniture, including his awardwinning
bathroom collection, AQHayon. Ranging from clear and harmonious to
playfully extravagant, all of the examples attest to his inimitable grasp of form,
style and colour.
In addition to his impressive body of work, which also includes his collaborations
with international clients such as Camper, Swarovski and Lladró, the
book contains new personal projects, sketches, illustrations and productions.
Documented by the photographer Nienke Klunder, these previously unpublished
works have been exclusively created for Jaime Hayon Works and show facets of
Hayon s talent that are revealed here for the first time.

Manufacturing Processes for Design Professionals
by Rob Thompson (Author) / Thames & Hudson (Editor)

An encyclopaedic guide to production techniques and materials for product and industrial designers, engineers, and architects.

Today's product designers are presented with a myriad of choices when creating their work and preparing it for manufacture. They have to be knowledgeable about a vast repertoire of processes, ranging from what used to be known as traditional "crafts" to the latest technology, to enable their designs to be manufactured effectively and efficiently. Information on the internet about such processes is often unreliable, and search engines do not usefully organize material for designers.

This fundamental new resource explores innovative production techniques and materials that are having an impact on the design industry worldwide. Organized into four easily referenced parts?Forming, Cutting, Joining, and Finishing?over seventy manufacturing processes are explained in depth with full technical descriptions; analyses of the typical applications, design opportunities, and considerations each process offers; and information on cost, speed, and environmental impact. The accompanying step-by-step case studies look at a product or component being manufactured at a leading international supplier.

A directory of more than fifty materials includes a detailed technical profile, images of typical applications and finishes, and an overview of each material's design characteristics. With some 1,200 color photographs and technical illustrations, specially commissioned for this book, this is the definitive reference for product designers, 3D designers, engineers, and architects who need a convenient, highly accessible, and practical reference.

In the opening chapters Franco Bertoni traces the origins and development of minimalism: from religious asceticism, through 18th century rationalism to the various current schools and modes.
This introduction provides a necessary and well-founded guide to the concept of simplicity, of minimalism in design, photography, theatre, music and literature.
22 renowned designers such as Tadao Ando, Giorgio Armani, Michael Gabellini, Konstantin Grcic, Donald Judd, Calvin Klein, Issey Miyake, Jean Nouvel, Claudio Silvestrini, Eduardo Souto de Moura and Hannes Wettstein are portrayed in the main section, each with a concise biography, bibliography and particulars of their work.

Modernist Jewelry 1930-1960: The Wearable Art Movement (Schiffer Book for Collectors)
by Marbeth Schon (Author) / Schiffer Publishing (Editor)

DesignAddict review:
New Scandinavian Design is an ambitious survey of the creativity and innovation of one of the most energetic design cultures around today. Not to be outshone by the classic furniture that made "Scandinavian design" a catchphrase of the 1950s, today's generation of designers is updating modernism in fresh and unexpected ways. Tweaking the myth of fair-haired citizens producing sober beech furniture, New Scandinavian Design goes "beyond blond" to feature work that is anarchic, conceptual, and playful, while still exhibiting hallmark qualities of honesty and utility. Profiles of each Nordic country and illuminating interviews explore the trends and top products. Well over 400 full-color photographs of contemporary furniture, housewares, textiles, and consumer electronics make this an authoritative overview. Expertly researched and inventively designed, this substantial volume is as commanding and attractive as its subject. - A. Rasmussen -

This beautifully written new book explores the work of 175 of the most important American modernist artist jewelers through a comprehensive text and over 540 color and 35 black and white photos. Beginning with the streamlining of Art Moderne, modernist jewelers mirrored the consciousness of their age. They were free thinkersartists who broke away from the mainstream of jewelry design and looked to the fine arts for inspiration; they were Surrealists, Cubists, and Abstract Expressionists functioning as sculptors in small scale, painters in enamels, and architects in miniature. The modernist metalsmiths of the 1930s through 1960s laid the groundwork for the enormous expansion of metalsmithing in the 1970s and '80s. These creative jewelers produced personal designs as they absorbed the changes happening in the world around them. The artists' stories and jewelry are arranged chronologically and linked to four pivotal exhibitions held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, in 1946; the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, in 1948 and 1955; and an exhibition on paper in 1959. Together, the artists at these important events comprise the modernist movement of wearable art directly and through their influence on the subsequent generations. This important book will stand as the primary reference to art jewelry of the mid-20th century and be consulted by all who want to understand the innovations it embraces.

Objects of Design: The Museum of Modern Art
by Bevin Cline (Author) / Tina di Carlo (Author) / Christian Larsen (Author) / Luisa Lorch (Author) / Christopher Mount (Author) / Peter Reed (Author) / Peter Behrens (Author) / Isamu Noguchi (Author) / Egmont Arens (Contributor) / Christopher Dresser (Contributor) / Charles Eames (Contributor) / Robert Gottlieb (Contributor) / Louis Comfort Tiffany (Contributor) / Sven Wingquist (Contributor) / Paola Antonelli (Editor) / Matilda McQuaid (Editor) / Terence Riley (Editor) / The Museum of Modern Art, New York (Editor)

Showcasing selected works from The Museum of Modern Art's superlative architecture and design collection, Objects of Design features a wide variety of industrial and domestic artifacts by great designers of the modern period, from early masters such as Hector Guimard, Frank Lloyd Wright and Josef Hoffmann to contemporary practitioners including Droog Design, Ettore Sottsas, Gaetano Pesce, Hella Jongerius and others. Some of the objects represent turn-of-the-century designs of the Vienna Secession, Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement; others are Bauhaus and de Stijl explorations; still others show Charles and Ray Eames and other American designers of the second half of the 20th century; representations of the Italian design revolutions; and contemporary manifestations of familiar genres using radical new materials and techniques of manufacture. The book's 360 color plates not only reveal the range of aesthetic viewpoints in design since the late 19th century but together trace the historical development of the Museum's celebrated design collection. In the introductory essay, Paola Antonelli, Curator, Department of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art, explores the history of modern design as well as the story of the museum's collection and its influence on the history of modern and contemporary design itself.
